About the site
The idea of creation of this web resource did not emerge spontaneously. It has been ripening for a long time. Finally, our first pages have been created.
It all started in the distant 90-ties. The collapse of the economy, coupons instead of money, total deficit, low wages, lack of social protection, and as a consequence of it a constant search for ways to survive. I had a chance to become a shuttle-merchant from Ukraine to Poland on a bike !!!
On our way there different trash was taken into trunk bags and in such huge quantities which put "Tourist" on a goat ... On return way we earned incredibly valuable foreign currency ...
We used to look enviously at occasionally encountered Germans and Poles, soaring on the highway, which were well equipped and light loaded on their bicycles.
About such bike tours, we could not even dream by that time ...
The next step – was driving on empty and broken Ukrainian roads with heavy trunk bags using the same well-deserved "Tourist". Time has passed, a lot of cars occupied all the space of the broken roads, poisoned air, created very uncomfortable conditions for cyclists.
We had to get away from the roads on forest trails and dirt roads. "Tourist" in principle coped pretty well with this task, but in the plains of Kyiv region ...
In the recent 2007 I arrived to Crimea almost like a European tourist. For my brow sweat earned money I was given a place in a group of 10-15 people.
A rented budget mountain bike, escort car intended for transporting of tourist equipment and tents, 2 experienced instructors, sightseeing in the mountain area of Crimea, food for the road ...
First impression - amazing simplicity of bicycle control (wide tires, shock-absorbing fork and shifters attached to the handlebars, after a "Tourist" – that was cool).
Active breathing of a mountain air, good company, no hateful cars on the road cause a real euphoria.
This leisure style has completely changed my way of life henceforth.
I hooked on a mountain bike in the full sense of the word.
My goal has become not to obey the reasons interfering with my chosen way of life, but to seek opportunities to overcome such reasons...
As a result, I started to look for such bike routes in Kiev, which minimize, and if possible eliminate the movement on the roads ...
Search by guess and by gosh gave their results. I found paths through the parks and forests to my work location and to permanent places of rest. I spent weekends in further search of new routes ...
After the first trip to Crimea, I looked forward to the next season for the passage of the new routes. Fortunately some of them were offered …
Serious preparation for the season gave its outcome. In the 2008 season I have passed all the routes offered by the company. The next year, we realized a need for new routes ...
I was developing my own routes using Crimea maps and was passing them together with instructors. I made an emphasis on resting in civilized places (hostels, hotels, private sector). I prefered to get maximum pleasure from riding on a lightweight bike with heavy loads, followed by having a rest in comfort ... My fitness form became much better, but a sense of helplessness and disorientation without instructors in the mountains left a bitter aftertaste.
The 2009 season began with the acquisition of navigation skills by GPS. The whole season was devoted to working out the skills and the development of software with the devices. At the end of the season I managed to pass routes in the Carpathians and Crimea independently. The number of routes in Kyiv was hard to count ...
In the 2010 season I took a task on my own to develop a large and fairly difficult route to the Crimea for one ride with a small group of friends, with having a rest in comfortable hotels, the baggage moving by escort car and day-loads by approximately 2 times exceeding the standard tourist one’s.
Description of this route will be shown on the website in the form of a diary report. If you are interested in more detail, see Velokyiv
After this expedition we worked thoroughly through Kyiv. Every weekend we devised a new route. I have accumulated a lot of interesting information. Accidentally I encountered in the web a great resource on Routes of Israel
This website inspired me to create my own brainchild ...
I remember my anguish at the very beginning. I persistently searched for information in search engines according to: cycling route, velorout, but nothing was found, although the logic seemed to be right ...
Hence the name of the resource:
Velorout.com.ua
So we are arranged in such a way to blame for the problems everyone else, but not ourselves.
It might be correct not to blame each other as well, but just go and do something useful for others ...
Everyone knows that a man in his life has to plant a tree, build a house and raise a child. But what is good in planting trees, if everything around them barbarously destroyed. And not just the trees, but even lawns, when one parks one’s metal-scrap on them. Perhaps you need someone to explain to people that they are human beings, not cattle. After all, a person must be, above all, cultural one, and thus to take care of not to deliver around the inconvenience! Only goons do not think about others, and do what they want. For them, it is necessary to build fences, and to develop the reflexes of fear by means of fines. We need to teach people to be human, and therefore respect themselves ...
What good is to build a house and spend their precious time of life, when the time will erase it into a dust. And they build these houses so much that soon there will be not only trees, but also lawns and sun light in the city ... why not on the contrary to become a part of nature and to use their limited time to live in harmony with the environment?
To give birth to a child is not easy, but grow out a real man and not a beast is much more complicated and difficult.
So, I decided to do at least something useful for everyone.
